Summary

Why do we have the expression 'see red'? How did consciousness evolve? Why do we sleep badly in blue light? Why are we happier when surrounded by nature? The answer to all of these questions lies in the evolution of vision.

In The Line of Sight, eminent scientist Andrew Parker sets us on an enthralling journey through the development of our dominant sense, starting with our earliest animal ancestors millions of years ago. Combining cutting-edge science with gripping narrative, he argues that vision - both in the eye and the brain - was integral to humanity's development, playing a crucial role in the evolution of consciousness, artistic expression, language development, emotion, and more. What's more, by understanding the crucial role of vision in our story, we can better design our world today.

Foreword

An incredible history of vision, showing how the sense has shaped humankind
