About the author
Dora Wilbur taught elementary school for 34 years until she retired in 2019. During her tenure as an accomplished teacher, she won the Christa McAuliffe Fellowship Award, Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science, Wal Mart Teacher of the Year, Golden Apple Award, and WCPZ’s Terrific Teacher. She was a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar and was placed in Margaretta High School’s Hall of Fame. Students were thrilled when she transformed her classroom into a lush, green rain forest, an underwater ocean scene complete with a scuba diver, and a desert biome filled with saguaro and prickly pear cacti. In the words of her former student Oz, “You certainly are the funniest and most awesome teacher. You can be a little bit crazy sometimes but that makes you better.”
