Urbanization is the quick change of human social roots worldwide, where the urban culture is rapidly replacing village culture. It is the processes through which the forests, fertile agricultural lands, surface water bodies are being irretrievably lost. For the first time in history, in 2008, more than half of the world's human beings (3.3 billion people) were living in urban areas. By 2030, this is expected to swell to almost 5 billion. Then, the towns and cities of the developing world will make up 80% of urban humanity. In India the percentage of people living in cities and urban area almost doubled to 27.78% in year 2001, was low when compared to developed countries. This kind of uncontrolled, haphazard, low density settlements will be lead to urban sprawl. Urban planning for Coimbatore city is the core of this book.
