About the author
Gayle Mindes, Ed.D., is professor emerita at DePaul University, where she was a faculty member for 25 years and served as associate dean, acting dean, and chair of the Teacher Education Department. She is author of several notable books, including Assessing Young Children and Social Studies for Young Children: Preschool and Primary Curriculum Anchor, Second Edition, as well as editor for Teaching Young Children with Challenging Behavior and Contemporary Challenges in Teaching Young Children: Meeting the Needs of All Students.Mark Newman is professor of social science education at National College of Education, National Louis University. He has published books and articles on primary sources, visual culture, geography, and visual literacy. He has directed Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources and National Endowment for the Humanities grants. Newman won the National Louis Distinguished Teaching Award in 2016.
