Ruminal Bacteriocins - Characteristics and applications

Bacteriocins are antimicrobial peptides of bacterial origin with narrow and/or broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. There is an increased incidence of antimicrobial resistance which needs the great and urgent attention of the scientific community for the alternative and bacteriocin is one among it which can serve the purpose exactly. There are many sources of bacteriocin availability but the rumen of livestock is the major and abundant one.

I Dr. Barathiraja S, M.V.Sc., Ph.D pursued M.V.Sc from RIVER, Puducherry, India and Ph.D (Animal Biochemistry) from ICAR-IVRI, Hebbal, Bangalore, Karnataka under the mentor-ship of Dr.G.R.Reddy. At present I am working as Assistant Professor (C) in the Dept. of Veterinary Biochemistry, under the supervision of Dr.J.Thanislass, & Prof.S.Ramkumar.
