About the author

Valtýr Guðmundsson (1860-1928) var islandsk filolog. Efter at have fået sin doktorgrad med afhandlingen 'Privatboligen på Island i sagatiden samt delvis i det øvrige Norden' blev han docent ved Københavns Universitet, hvor han underviste i islandsk historie og litteratur. Guðmundsson havde altid særligt fokus på de kulturhistoriske forhold i oldtiden.
