An brave story about making new friendships.

About the author

Ellen DeLange has been fascinated by picture books ever since she was a child growing up in the Netherlands. In the attic of her home, she assembled a small library and shared her collection with friends and family. As an adult, she started traveling and expanded her library with picture books from all over the world. Ellen also enjoyed inventing her own stories and was encouraged by her daughter to write her first picture book, A Story with a Tale. Ellen has a doctorate in medical sciences and currently lives in Canada where she loves to walk in the woods with her Jack Russell terriers, drink lots of tea after a busy day, and sail on the ocean to clear her mind.
Agnes Ofner is an author and illustrator, based in Vienna. She grew up in a small village in the South of Austria. There she roamed through the forests, stayed up late to read books, and thought up stories. Later she moved to Vienna to study languages and graphic design to pursue her goal of creating books for a living. Her first novel "Nicht so das Bilderbuchmädchen" won the Austrian Young Adult Literature prize. She dreams of one day having a dog (soon!) and moving to the sea (maybe not so soon). Coincidentally foxes are her all-time favorite animal.

Summary

An brave story about making new friendships.

Additional text

"One day Fox gets chased out of his home by some dogs, and needs to find a new home but the animals in the forest aren't very welcoming.

I know this is a story about prejudice, but I think it would have been a better message to tell children that all people are welcome and deserving of love and acceptance when they show up rather than tying Fox's acceptance to saving the animals.

The illustrations are amazing. They are so gorgeous and colorful and really make the book. My favorite was Fox with the flower." - Gilbert Public Schools

"I liked this book. It made a good read aloud book for my youngest child. The story is simple, Fox gets displaced and seeks out friends and a new place to call his own. The animals are drawn with a cute style which means that children identify with them quickly. I found the story easy for children to relate to, the emotions Fox felt when he missed his home and couldn’t find friends." - Hyde Park Primary and Secondary schools
