About the author

Laura Canty is a business consultant, author, and advocate for mental health and women in STEM. Balancing multiple roles as a part-time business consultant, mother, and now author, Laura shares her deeply personal journey in her memoir, Something to Live For. The book recounts her emotional experience from bringing her son home from the hospital to being discharged from a Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) in 2018, a raw and hopeful story that leaves nothing unsaid.

With a background in Mechanical Engineering from Sheffield University, Laura has worked at BAE Systems Digital Intelligence since 2008, holding various roles including Business Analyst, Chief of Staff, and Bid Manager. For the past 15 years, she has thrived as a Business Change Consultant, advocating for women in STEM and cybersecurity by visiting schools to inspire the next generation.

Laura is passionate about mental health, crediting her supportive workplace for enabling her to manage her well-being alongside her career, motherhood, and volunteer work with the NHS and Therapy Dogs Nationwide. She currently lives in Cheltenham, co-parenting her son, daughter, and springer spaniel with her ex-husband. Embracing the hilarity and challenges of dating in her 40s, Laura hints that there may be plenty of material for a second book in the future.
