About the author

Franz Julius Delitzsch, erudito bíblico, descendiente de una familia de origen judía y luterano-pietista, nació en Leipzig (Alemania). Enseñó en Rostock (1846-50) y Erlangen (1850-67), antes de regresar a Leipzig por el resto de su vida (1867-90).

Escribió muchas obras sobre estudios rabínicos, opuesto al antisemitismo, aunque sin por eso dejar de buscar la conversión cristiana de los judíos. Fundó un Instituto Judío en Leipzig, que lleva su nombre.
