Liber Regulae Pastoralis (The Book of the Pastoral Rule) is a treatise on the duties of the clergy written by Pope Gregory I (540 - 604 A.D.) about 590 A.D., shortly after he was ordained as pope. This book would go on to become one of the most influential works ever composed on the subject. The book itself is addressed to John, the bishop of Ravenna.

This reproduction of the text is adapted into modern English using the Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, Second Series, Vol. 12. Edited by Philip Schaff and Henry Wace. (Buffalo, NY: Christian Literature Publishing Co., 1895.) translated by James Barmby (1822-1897). All the original footnotes are included along with a full table of contents.
