Decades ago the EEG was introduced into Psychiatry with great hopes, but the work soon came to a standstill. In retrospect we may state that this was due to an unexpectedly awkwardness concerning the meaning of the recorded brain-electrical oscillations. Thus, a rapid loss of interest in a behavioral EEG was unavoidable. We prove that this downfall was not caused by the unproductiveness of the EEG but by its handling. Although hardly acknowledged by the present psychiatry, the new paradigm of organismic Self-organization is currently permeating all sciences. Hence, we precede the book with an analysis of the drifting apart of Function (EEG) and Adaptive Behavior. Numerous examples show that aporias and paradoxes, being based on polarizing one-sidedness of "thought styles" are disappearing. The quantitative assessment of the time-course of any processual diseases in individual cases may serve as a proof.
