Greengram (Vigna radita L. Hepper) is also known as mung, moong, mungo, goldengram, chickasaw pea and oregon pea. Development of short duration as well as photo and thermo insensitive varieties provided excellent opportunity for greengram cultivation both in kharif as well as in summer season, Mungbean, a high protein (23-24 percent) legume, occupies 14 percent of total pulses' area and 7 percent of total pulse production in India, with an average national productivity of 363 kg ha- 1.
