Die zwölfte Ausgabe von Candide widmet sich dem Thema Visual Urbanism - ein vollkommen neues Forschungsfeld. Fotograf*innen und Wissenschaftler*innen experimentierten mit anthropologischen, kulturwissenschaftlichen, soziologischen und geografischen Methoden, für eine Reflexion über die meist unkritische Nutzung von Bildern des öffentlichen Raums. Candide 12 sucht Möglichkeiten, diese Ergebnisse in Architektur und Stadtplanung zu integriert. Dabei beantworten Autor*innen drängende Fragen, wie nach der Nutzbarmachung fotografischer Bilder für die Architektur und vice versa.
Candide. Journal for Architectural Knowledge wurde 2009 von AXEL SOWA und SUSANNE SCHINDLER am Lehrgebiet Architekturtheorie der RWTH Aachen gegründet. Die Publikation widmet sich der Diskussion und Verbreitung gegenwärtiger Diskurse in der Architektur. Candide erscheint seit der Ausgabe 6 im Hatje Cantz Verlag.
Summary
In recent years, visual urbanism has emerged as a new research field. Photographers and researchers had been experimenting with critical visual methodologies in anthropology, cultural studies, sociology, and cultural geography. They underlined the importance of reflexivity and questioned the uncritical use of both cameras and images. Yet, until now, a discussion of incorporating visual research methods into the knowledge of architectural design and urban planning has been very minimal. Candide N° 12 gathers voices of a cross-disciplinary dialogue between theoreticians and practitioners of urbanism and photography. The authors of the forthcoming issue provide answers to a number of key questions: What can architects, urban planners and designers learn from photographers and visual artists and vice versa? How can we define a new common ground between making photography and designing urban spaces?
Candide. Journal for Architectural Knowledge was founded in 2009 by AXEL SOWA and SUSANNE SCHINDLER at the Department of Architectural Theory at RWTH Aachen University. The publication is dedicated to the discussion and dissemination of current discourses in architecture. Hatje Cantz has been publishing Candide since its sixth issue.
