In 1947, the British with its withdrawal from the Indian subcontinent, all the Princely States under the Indian Independence Act 1947 which outside of British India existed were released completely free from the British Control. The States were left with the option to decide freely to accede to India or to the newly created Pakistan or to remain independent State. Two States i.e. Bahawalpur and Khairpur were the first states to accede to Pakistan while others were considering what to do, but, most of the Muslim States had acceded to Pakistan within a year.
