About the author
Anne Katz has worked for over thirty years in second language education with a focus on assessment, curriculum design, and standards development. Her publications have centered on classroom uses for assessment, the development of academic English, the application of standards, and effective classroom practices for English language learners. Her most recent research has explored the relationship between English language proficiency and student performances on achievement tests in English. As a teacher educator, she promotes linkages between research and school contexts to support active and collaborative professional development. Dr. Katz teaches courses in learner assessment for The New School’s MATESOL program.Dr Anne Burns is Professor of TESOL in the School of Education at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. She is also an Emeritus Professor in Language Education at Aston University, Birmingham, Honorary Professor at the University of Sydney, and Adjunct Professor at Macquarie University, Sydney. She is known internationally for her work in action research, the teaching of speaking, and teacher education, having published over 15 books on these topics. She is an Academic Adviser to the Applied Linguistics Series published by Oxford University Press, and a Senior Consultant to Cengage/National Geographic Learning. She also serves as an Executive Board member of the International Applied Linguistics Association (AILA) and is a member of the British Council English Language Advisory Group (ELAG).
