In environmental medicine it is now considered certain that the inhalation of airborne particles, some of which are also called environmental particles, environmental aerosols or fine dusts, has harmful effects on the human organism. These gaps in knowledge concern not only the health effects, but also the sources, general occurrence and dispersion of ultra-fine particles. Against this background, the present study examines the extent to which Berlin-Tegel Airport influences the concentration of ultra-fine particulate matter to the east of the airport, based on a specially conducted empirical study.
