Afghans have been coping with the high level of maternal mortality ratio over the past three decades. One of its causes is under-utilization of contraceptive methods. This study aims to: - describe knowledge, and awareness regarding contraceptive methods; - describe health seeking behaviors following occurrence of adverse effects of contraceptives;- use and attitude of the married child bearing aged women (WCBA) regarding contraceptive methods;- perception of health care providers regarding under-use of contraceptive methods; - complains of married WCBA; and suggestion for improvement of family planning services. It is strongly recommended that policy for both public and private sectors (NGOs, MoPH, private practitioners) and other institutions that are involved in family planning programs should be designed in a way to enhance knowledge, attitude and practice on the use of modern contraceptives among married WCBA and home decision makers such as husband. We also recommend that other decision makers of the family like father, mother -in -law etc. should also encouraged to promote small family with adequate spacing.
