Bien que l'Île-de-France soit volontiers perçue et présentée comme une terre d'innovation et de modernité, elle est aussi riche d'un héritage pluriséculaire qui contribue à façonner son identité singulière. En s'appuyant sur quarante ans d'enquêtes de l'Inventaire général, cet ouvrage invite à découvrir ou redécouvrir les mille et une facettes du patrimoine francilien : ses églises gothiques et ses châteaux Grand Siècle, mais aussi ses aérogares, ses stades, ses cités-jardins et ses villes nouvelles, en passant par ses paysages de bord de Seine ou ses villages de caractère, qui ont inspiré les grands peintres du XIXe siècle. Unfamiliar Heritage
The Île-de-France region, around Paris, is usually seen as a place of innovation and modernity. But it is also a region which has a rich heritage, some of it centuries old, a vital part of its special identity. The General Inventory has been studying this heritage for over forty years now and its documentation is at the origins of this publication which is an invitation to discover - or rediscover -a thousand and one facets of the Île-de-France heritage : Gothic churches, palaces and chateaux of France's Grand Siècle, but also airport terminals, sports stadiums, garden cities and new towns, and not forgetting the landscapes forged by the river Seine nor the characterful villages which inspired the great French painters of the nineteenth century. From the medieval towers of Provins, to the twentieth and twenty-first-century towers at La Défense, the pages of this book offer a picture of the region's heritage in all its diversity.
