Set in the end of humanity, The Road of the Great Language Rune features Yar, a mysterious girl in a red dress, who helps 66 children survive in a series of underground tunnels. As Yar tells her story, it is revealed that for hundreds of years, she has been serving as the warden of the ultimate demon, who is sealed on a small island on the edge of human civilization. It is her duty to ensure that the demon is never to be released, so that the Western World can live in peace.
However, things never go as they are planned. In 1661, Yar met a man who led his troops from China to the island of Taiwan to drive away the occupying Dutch forces. As foretold by destiny, Zheng Chenggong would establish a kingdom here and eventually become a local deity named Koxinga. But he had to confront his first enemy here - his own greed. On top of that, the local Aborigines would fight to death against anyone who dares to take their land...
Full of dramatic conflicts between the East and the West, between Han Chinese and Taiwanese Aborigines, and between Good and Evil -- The Road of the Great Language Rune is an epic fantasy story that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

About the author

Freddy Hsiao used to work for one of Taiwan's top computer games companies. As his family has experienced hundreds of years of conflicts and chaos on this small island, he is determined to create a Role-Playing Game (RPG) with unique Taiwanese characteristics.

When his wife became ill with cancer, Hsiao had an amazing experience. He dreamed about a woman in a red dress, who promised to protect Hsiao's wife in exchange of his agreement to design a writing system for a spoken language that has been lost for nearly three hundreds years. After his wife completely recovered, Hsiao set to work and eventually came up with what he refers to as the Great Language Rune -- one that is based on the Taiwanese dialect and uses a series of Cuneiform-style symbols and Han Chinese written characters as its means of expression.

Hsiao involves the Great Language Rune in his writing, portraying it as an almighty weapon with ultimate magical powers. He also employs various supernatural elements in his depiction of historical conflicts between Han Chinese and Taiwanese Aborigines. In short, while he may not be looking at the history of Taiwan from a traditional "Chinese" perspective, he respects history all the same. It is his wish that the Great Language Rune can gain a new life through his writing.
