Lucy, a Panamanian street dog longs for a better life. A life with less uncertainty, hunger and fear. She learns of a place called the United States where there are indoor beds, two meals a day and all the belly rubs she could want and decides to join a caravan of likeminded dogs to go find this for themselves. But once there she is faced with the challenges that come with a new country and unfamiliar surroundings. Language, customs and other issues cause her to go inside herself and hide. But then an unexpected event makes her differences her strengths. She saves the day and finally finds the community and home she was seeking.

About the author

Craig Hansen is a first-time children's book writer. He attended Colorado State University and received a B.F.A. in Graphic Design. After 13 years working at large ad agencies and small boutique design firms in London, Denver and Chicago, he founded a small design studio called Principle in 2014.

This story is very loosely based on the life and times of his sassy and adventurous Panamanian street dog-the real Lucy. It has been a labor of love for him to write and illustrate a deeply personal book that he hopes will elucidate the idea of immigration and soften hearts and minds. Life is better with diversity.
