Jacob’s life is full of changes. Besides starting school soon, he is about to become a big brother.
Even before his sister is born, Jacob can sense that she is going to need some very special care. At times, Jacob's parents are unable to answer all of Jacob’s questions, but fortunately, his grandma is there for him. Together the family ponders how they can best prepare for helping Jacob’s disabled sister.
Jacob loves his sister Pearl dearly. He is happy to discover that she seems to hear his voice and feel his touch on her skin. Their life together is ready to begin.

Jo ennen siskon syntymää selviää, että tämä tulee elämään muiden ihmisten ja vaativan hoidon varassa. Välillä vanhemmat eivät osaa eivätkä jaksa vastata Jaakko-veljen kysymyksiin, mutta onneksi tukena on myös mummi. Yhdessä perhe pohtii, miten vammaista siskoa voidaan parhaiten auttaa.
Helmi-sisko on veljelleen rakas. Jaakko on iloinen, että sisko näyttää ainakin kuulevan hänen äänensä ja tuntevan silityksen ihollaan. Yhteinen elämä alkaa.

Tuula Pere (b. 1958) holds a Ph.D. in Law and is an award-winning children's author from Helsinki, Finland. Her doctoral dissertation, published in 2015, examines the limits of freedom of speech in the Finnish mass media amidst the social and cultural shifts of the 1960s and 1970s. Prior to her doctoral research, Tuula Pere had a career spanning over two decades as a lawyer and held various expert and executive positions in large industrial companies.Since 2010, Tuula Pere has published over sixty children's books, many of which have been translated into multiple languages. She has also authored poetry and aphorisms for children, as well as short stories and non-fiction for adults. Tuula Pere is an avid music and sports enthusiast and a keen baker. She is married and the mother of three.
