French artist Raoul Le Fort has fallen in love with a young woman, Eva, the epitome of beauty, and the daughter of self-made New York millionaire, the Hon. John N. Corliss. Corliss isn't impressed with Le Fort's bohemian lifestyle, nor his prioritizing art over commerce, but he's willing to give Le Fort a chance to win his approval for his daughter's hand.
