In Nepal, child labor was not a serious issue during the decade of 1970s and 1980s although it was in practice even before pre-industrial period. The government of Nepal was silent about this issue even after other countries in the world were seriously implementing various policies to control it. The issue of child labour has been regarded as serious issue only after the restoration of democracy in Nepal. After then the issue was taken as an integral part of policies by the government to protect the rights of children.
