"KAPAMBWE MULENGA WAS HERE" was the humorous story we used to hear while growing up of the former Chipolopolo star using charcoal to leave graffiti on the surface of a British Airlines aircraft. That graffiti is everywhere: in classrooms, on bus seat covers, on walls, trees and roads is an indication of the 'honey in our names'. Even so, our names carry a story beyond their good 'taste'; they are an expression of our cultural identity and, all names and their meanings put together, give an idea of the way we think as a nation. They have the potential of establishing the long range goal of the then Institute of African Studies to establish a national cultural profile.
