Five women's lives between tradition and new beginnings, between war and peace Elise Schenk (1855-1940) The Eisenach hand weaver with vision founded a women's committee in 1895 to interest housewives in women's voting rights and education. Eugenie John, writer's name Marlitt (1825-1887) The Arnstadt best-selling author of the magazine "Gartenlaube" is known worldwide. American women hold her in high esteem. When she deals with rape in a novel, her texts are rewritten. She is harshly attacked by the naturalists and is loved by a broad readership. Queen Luise of Prussia (1776-1810) As a 17-year-old she flees from the war to Thuringia. In 1792 she is crowned Queen of Prussia. In a time between war and peace she grows up to be the responsible mother of her country. Bertha von Suttner (1843-1914) her book "Die Waffen nieder" makes her immediately famous. Her tireless peace work is honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1905. Selma Peppel (1895-1946) The Königsberg teacher's wife starves to death on 12.02.1946.
