Phoebe Harcum's memories of Poquoson were published in the Poquoson Post in the 1980s. She intended to collect those stories and add remembrances of family and friends into a larger book, but never completed the task before her death in January 2018. Her husband and daughter have edited the stories that were written and combined them with tributes to other Poquoson residents to make an interesting, touching and sometimes humorous testament to early Poquoson.

Here, the oral histories become written as we learn about the young boy in a washtub who paddles out to the Yankee gunboat during the Civil War, or the daredevil flyer who volunteers for duty during World War ll, or the rescued steer who comes to live on the farm with us. Join us as we follow Phoebe down a trail of wonderful memories.
