A luxuriously illustrated gift book about imagination, possibility, and growing up

About the author

Sheryl McFarlane didn't expect to become a writer. As a young child she was too busy exploring nature to bury herself in books. Later, all that time spent outside inspired her IODE Award-winning picture book Waiting for the Whales, the perennial bestseller Jessie's Island, and more than a dozen other thoughtful works for children. Sheryl lives on Canada's west coast where she enjoys gardening, renovating old houses, and-of course-books. Sheryl's grandchildren helped to inspire The Rocking Horse.
