She received a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Florida, an M.B.A. from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a B.A. in Computer and Information Science from Ohio State University. Her last book, Speaking for the Enslaved—Heritage Interpretation at Antebellum Plantation Sites , was published in 2012 (Routledge).
