Powder metallurgy is a process of forming solid particles from a melted material which is atomized by projecting it in the form of droplets generally at predetermined velocity into a gaseous medium, at a selected pressure which is not less than one atmosphere atmospheric pressure and substantially selected temperature which is in a range below the melting point of the atomized material. Two main centrifugal atomization processes are the rotating electrode process and rotating disk process. Investigation of centrifugal atomization as a method of manufacture of metal powders have demonstrated that the mechanism of comminution of liquids. The process of drop formation on a rotating electrode (or disk) in an atomization chamber is influenced by process parameters (electrode diameter or disk diameter, rotational speed, and rate of melting of feed of liquid metal) and the physical constants of the liquid metal (density, surface tension, and viscosity).
