Methods for in vitro propagation of date palm - Techniques and protocols for industrial plant production

English · Paperback / Softback

Description

Somatic embryogenesis and organogenesis are two in vitro propagation techniques used for the regeneration of complete plants from cells and tissues, based on plant totipotency. These two systems have been widely employed for rapid and large-scale propagation of many plant species, including date palm. In the present book, we describe methods for in vitro propagation of date palm through organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis, based on our own experience in this field and on results from literature. The book is divided into chapters that describe the plant material used for date palm micropropagation and the disinfection protocols. It reports detailed protocols used for organogenesis and somatic embryogenesis, and highlights the main problems encountered during date palm micropropagation.
