Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) was first used in 2001 by Choukroun et al. specifically in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and is currently considered as a new generation of platelet concentrate. It consists of a matrix of autologous fibrin and has several advantages including easier preparation and not requiring chemical manipulation of the blood, which makes it strictly an autologous preparation The use of platelet gel to improve bone regeneration is a recent technique in implantology. PRF membrane has exhibited favorable clinical results in the treatment of periodontal infrabony defects , protecting open wounds from oral environment and accelerating hard and soft tissue healing.
