Am Ufer des Zürichsees steht das einzige Werk des Jahrhundertarchitekten Le Corbusier in der deutschen Schweiz: ein nach dem Proportionssystem Modulor entworfener Ausstellungsbau im Massstab eines Wohnhauses, der das ästhetische Potenzial einer elementaren Vorfabrikation als Rahmen für die Präsentation von Malerei, Plastik, Fotografie und Mobiliar veranschaulicht. Von der Zürcher Galeristin Heidi Weber initiiert und 1967 eröffnet, bündelt die aus Stahl, Glas und Neopren erbaute maison d'homme zentrale Themen Le Corbusiers und deutet zugleich neue Entwicklungen an.
In minutiöser Kleinarbeit gelang es Silvio Schmed und Arthur Rüegg, den Bau in den Originalzustand zurückzuführen und die fehlenden Möbel und Leuchten detailgenau zu rekonstruieren. Das englischsprachige Buch gibt Einblick in die Ergebnisse ihrer fast archäologischen Sondierungen, stellt den Experimentalbau in seinen historischen Dimensionen dar und zeigt bisher noch nie publiziertes Bildmaterial aus dessen Bauzeit.

About the author

Silvio Schmed
is a Zurich-based architect and interior designer and has realized numerous restorations and reconstructions of historic and modern architectural monuments in Switzerland.

Arthur Rüegg
is a Zurich-based architect, professor emeritus of architecture and construction at ETH Zurich, and an expert on Le Corbusier. He frequently collaborates with Silvio Schmed on restorations and reconstructions of Swiss architectural monuments.
