Mary Shelley (1797-1851) war eine englische Schriftstellerin und die Tochter des politischen Philosophen William Godwin und der berühmten Frauenrechtlerin Mary Wollstonecraft. Shelleys bahnbrechendes Werk Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus gilt als einer der ersten Science-Fiction-Romane. Neben ihrer literarischen Karriere war Shelley auch Herausgeberin und Förderin der Werke ihres Mannes, des Dichters Percy Bysshe Shelley.
