The Flagellates presents a multidisciplinary view of the flagellates exploring both their unity, in terms of their structure, mechanisms and processes, and their remarkable diversity in terms of biogeography, niche colonization, and adaptations to their environment. In addition, genetic links and evolutionary topics are discussed including the basis for eukaryotes diversification. Contributors discuss a wide range of topics such as the flagellate cytoskeleton, cell surface, mechanisms of flagellar propulsion, trophic strategies, parasitism, functional diversity of heterotrophic flagellates, and sensory mechanims especially with regard to phototaxes and light perception in algae.
