About the author

Ranjan Kumar Auddy received his PhD from Calcutta University. He previously taught at Sabang Sajanikanta Mahavidyalaya, a college in rural West Bengal, and is currently an assistant professor at the Department of English, Heramba Chandra College, Kolkata, India.

Summary

This book presents a historical account of the development of an acrolectal variety of the English language in colonial India. It highlights the phenomenon of Indianisation of the English language and its significance in the articulation of the Indian identity in pre-Independence India.
