Affective maturity is a process of directing, structuring, and restructuring the human heart as it bends towards that innate need for love. Many experiences can disaffect the heart and block the process of its growth towards this maturity. This book offers insights on the best method of handling one's sexuality, management of one's affection, and its challenges within the sphere of celibate life. Celibacy is a gift and a charism which priests of the Catholic Church in the Latin rite enjoy, by God's Grace. The same applies to the religious. Nevertheless, every gift or treasure is associated with some difficulties. Attainment of affective maturity provides the key to understanding and handling the difficulties associated with this priceless treasure. While many people are interested in getting those with sexual misconduct punished or dismissed, this book is more of preventive measure. Only when one is affectively mature can she or he manage the great force of libido and eros, putting the force under control and channeling the energy more positively in life.

Maureen Akabogu belongs to the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Mother of Christ, Nigeria. She holds Bachelor's Degrees in Philosophy and Theology; Licentiate and Psy D in Clinical Psychology from Pontifical Gregorian University Rome, and PhD from Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas Rome.
