Silviu Ionel Dumitrescu, MD, PhD is a Cardiologist, Lecturer at "Titu Maiorescu University" Faculty of Medicine, Bucharest; and  Interventional Cardiology Department, "Carol Davila" Central Military Emergency University Hospital, Bucharest, Romania.
Ion C. ¿intoiu, MD, PhD, FESC is a Professor of Cardiology and teaches at "Titu Maiorescu University" Faculty of Medicine, Bucharest. He is further affiliated with "Vasile Candea' Heart Center of the Army -CCA (1991- present), Faculty of Medicine, Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest. He is the author and co-author of 12 specialized monographs, 421 papers from multiple medical specialties, and a member of the editorial board of 10 cardiology journals. In addition he is a member of numerous doctoral committees and consultant certification exams and supervise specialized training for resident doctors.


Professor Underwood obtained his MBChB in 1987 and his FRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1991, a Doctorate of Medicine (1994) and FRCS (CTh) (1998). His scientific contribution led to him being awarded The Ronald Edwards Medal by the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons of Great Britain in 1993; and The Cardiac Research Club Prize for 1992 and 1993. In 1997, he was awarded the Francis Fontan Prize from the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons, a Research Fellowship from the University of Louvain (Brussels), and a traveling scholarship from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. He has been a Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery for over 10 years and was Senior Lecturer/Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the Bristol Heart Institute, UK from 1999-2005. He has held several positions of responsibility including Programme Director for Cardiothoracic Surgery, Chairman of the Specialist Training Committee in the United Kingdom (UK) South West Region; Research and Development Leader for the United Bristol Healthcare Trust, UK. Hewas Audit Lead and Clinical Governance representative for Cardiac Surgery during his time as a Consultant. In 2007 he was appointed as Chief, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, CUHK, Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong. Academic positions: October 1999 - November 2005 Senior Lecturer/Consultant in Cardiac Surgery, University of Bristol/Bristol Royal Infirmary, United Kingdom November 2005 - present: Professor, Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, PWH, Chinese University of Hong Kong.
