About the author

Anindita Mukherjee is a Research Fellow at the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research, Hyderabad. Her research focuses on the ways in which the law structures the physical spaces we inhabit, through its conceptions of publicness. A fascination with the processes of claim-making before the law, especially by social justice movements, led her to study the implications of constructing a legal right to housing.

Summary

This book unpacks the ways in which existing law and policy impact the realisation of the right to housing in India. Within that context, it critically examines the benefits of seeking legal recognition for the right, in order to facilitate informed and nuanced engagement with the law.
