Microwave irradiated synthesis gives higher yield with less reaction time period as compared to conventional method. Hence comparison of conventional and microwave assisted synthesis was carried out. Recently, microwave reactions under solvent-free conditions are attractive in offering reduced pollution, low cost and offer high yields together with simplicity in processing and handling. Since there are scanty referances on the synthesis of benzylideneacetophenone, Schiff's base and phenothiazines. The synthesis of phenothiazines fused with Schiff base and benzylideneacetophenone moiety are not reported so for by conventional as well as microwave methods. Hence, it was thought worthwhile to synthesize new congeners by incorporating phenothiazine, schiff base and benzylideneacetophenone moiety and phenothiazines fused with benzylideneacetophenone moiety in a single molecular frame work and by conventional as well as microwave methods and to evaluate their antimicrobial and anti-fungal activity.
