About the author
Richard Janko is the Gerald F. Else Distinguished University Professor of Classical Studies at the University of Michigan. He has previously held teaching posts at St Andrews, Columbia, UCLA, and University College London, and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2006, the American Philosophical Society in 2009, and the Academy of Athens in 2017. His work focuses on Greek language, literature, and thought from the Bronze Age to Hellenistic times, and his publications include editions of Philodemus' On Poems, Book 1 and On Poems, Books 3-4, with fragments of Aristotle's dialogue On Poets (OUP, 2001 and 2011 respectively) in the Philodemus Translation Series, for which he serves as one of the series editors. He is now working on the Derveni papyrus.
