About the author










C.T. MCINTIRE is Professor of History at Trinity College, University of Toronto. Among his other books are England against the Papacy, 1858-1867, and History and Historical Understanding.
MARVIN PERRY is Associate Professor of History at Baruch College, the City College of New York. He is the author of Arnold Toynbee and the Crisis of the West and Western Civilization: Ideas, Politics, and Society.
