Accurate calculation of radiotherapy dose delivered to a heterogeneous target volume has always been an important concern of clinical medical physicists. In this work the author discuses and verifies efficacy of Acuros XB dose algorithm for dose calculation in homogenous and heterogeneous media using for 2 clinical cases models from everyday practice. Thermo-luminescent dosimeters (TLD) were used for dose measurement. The results were obtained in water phantom then compared with that calculated with the Eclipse treatment planning system (TPS). This publication takes us in a journey in through the different steps of the planning and implementing the work achieved, then with data calculation and results verification, illustrated with rich graphs and tables supporting the work.
