Ed ora siamo a questo: che delle mille e chi sa quante più opere scritte da quaranta anni in qua, all'estero non ne andarono e non ne vanno che sei o sette, tutte del Verdi: ch'e, mutate le parti, ora dobbiamo ricorrere noi alle opere stramere'se vogliamo tener aperti e animati i nostri teatri: che'dobbiamo ricorrere agli stranieri non solo per le opere ballo e per le opere serie, ma anche per le buffe, nelle quali siamo stati maestri insupera bili: e siamo a.quiesto, che con le opere serie e con le buffe, gli stranieri ci mandano pure i cantanti. Abbiamo voltata, insomma, la par tita dell' avere in quella del dare; di produttori ci siamo fatti consumatori, di doviziosissimi ci siam fatti e accattoni per giunta. Chè il cercare a' francesi e a' tedeschi quello che sono le operette - parodie, è accattare!
