Oral cancer is one of the cancers which can be easily detected at earlier stage as the susceptible changes in the oral cavity can be seen visually by patients as well as clinicians. Changes in the oral cavity allow clinicians to detect it and hence disease can be treated effectively in its earlier stage. If oral cancer is detected initially, the possibility of survival rate is improved remarkably than that for many other cancers. But unfortunately, the survival rate of five years for oral cancer is very less among all cancers. The poor survival rates indicate that the most of the oral cancerous lesions are still detected only in the last stage but not in its initial stage when prognosis is likely to be deprived. The general aim of the present to assess the knowledge, opinion and practice of dentist towards oral cancer prevention and early detection and to find out the area where education and training needs should emphasis.
