A lot of effort has been made in recent years to identify the risk factors responsible for initiation and progression of periodontal diseases. Mounting evidences indicate that, gingivitis and periodontitis are caused by various host responses which are associated with the continuous presence of microorganisms in the gingival crevice. Gingival crevicular fluid of Diabetes Mellitus patients with chronic periodontitis might result in a diminished neutrophil barrier function and lead to increased attachment loss due to presence of biomarkers such as Beta -Glucuronidase . Recent studies have shown a two way relationship between Diabetes Mellitus and periodontal diseases. Now a days uses of chair side kit for detection of red complex microganisms is performed by using N-benzoyl-DL-arginine-2-naphthylamide (BANA) test.
