Ensuring safety is one of the foremost concerns of any development activities, but Bangladesh somehow become inmate of crime and criminal offences. Crime hampers development activities in different behaviors. For tackling present crime situation of Bangladesh, the role playing by government agencies and Special Forces for managing the crime is not speedy and reasonable. The situation is worsening day after day. It is essential that every part of the society and professionals need to play their respective roles and duties accordingly. Thus, decision-makers and the citizens should re-think about strategies to make secure living environment in the cities and ensure harmonious planned physical development in the long-run. Ensuring this concept, relevant public law enforcement authorities are following a legal mandate for ensuring public safety. But, what is the result, in case of planned development hampers in the urban fringe areas due to crime? What is planners' role and how can physical planning elements can be used as crime prevention tools? This research tries to find those answers.

Sumi Islam) is an Urban and Regional Planner having Professional Graduation (BURP) and Masters (MURP) from URP Discipline of Khulna University and Master of Development Studies (MDS) from Economics Discipline, KU. He is from the imperial SHEIKH family of Khulna City.
