Informationen zum Autor Marco Polo was the original, trailblazing tourist. He was born into a wealthy Venetian merchant family in 1254 and at the age of 17 he embarked on an epic journey to Asia, as one of the first westerners to ever visit China. When he returned 24 years later he recorded his extensive travels in a book – publishing possibly the first travel guide ever – and introducing Europeans to Central Asia and China. Marco Polo’s travels have since inspired countless adventurers to set off and see the world. Allegedly, Christopher Columbus set off across the Atlantic with a copy of Marco Polo’s original book!It is this pioneering spirit that drives us at Marco Polo Travel Publishing to provide you with the best guides, maps and atlases possible – to inspire you to set off on your own adventures and help you travel the world. For example: Iceland facts and stats - at a glance, the achievements and culture of the Vikings, as well as those cute Icelandic ponies.  In the mood for: Fun suggestions help you to experience the variety of Iceland, whatever your personal preferences and interests. Tours: Five exciting tours cover all the amazing facets of Iceland. The Iceland Ring Road, a circumnavigation of the country on the almost completely paved coast road is the simplest way of exploring the island’s numerous attractions. Natural dramas await the visitor to the Wild West; the most famous highlights are covered by a tour of volcanoes, glaciers and geysers; and naturalists are attracted by the far north, where there are more arctic foxes than humans. All suggested tours are plotted on detailed maps and combine the best and most interesting places to see, with tips for exciting stops along the way. Experience & Enjoy: All the things which make a trip unforgettable: from eating and drinking, shopping, sightseeing, museums & galleries, staying the night, travelling with children, festivals and going out in the evening.
