Die zweite Abweichung vom ursprünglichen Plane betrifft die physiologische Chemie der Organe der P¿anzen, die ich zwar sehr ungern aber doch schliesslich weggelassen habe, weil der vierte Theil, schon in der jetzigen Fassung umfangreich, zu volumihos geworden wäre, weil ferner das Interesse der Physiologen diesem wissenschaft lich hochst lehrreichen und wichtigen Gebiete sich noch nicht genu gend zugewendet hat, hauptsachlich aber weil der gegenwartige Stand der wissenschaftlichen Forschung für die Gesammtdarstellung kein gunstiger ist; Fragen von grosser Bedeutung scheinen hier der Ent scheidung nahegeriickt zu sein.
