Die Aufnahme des ersten Bandes, selbst von Seiten der Gegner meines Standpunktes, hat mich eben so Sehr_ er muthigt wie zu der Steigerung meiner Anforderungen an das Werk selbst angeregt. Wer das Gebiet, auf welchem der gegenwärtige Theil sich bewegt, besonders das indische, auch nur einigermassen aus eigner Anschauung kennen gelernt, wird gerecht genug sein, nicht den Anspruch zu erheben, dass der Weg, den ich mir durch diesen dicht verwaohsenen Urwald, in welchen bisher wohl viele Pfade hinein, keiner aber wieder herausführte, zu hahnen suchte.
