Serafico: Sano gia da quattro anni ch'io diedi questo medesimo libro di Madrigali a 5 voci a M. Oratio Salviani Romano librara in Napoli, perch' egli il mandasse a stampare a Venetia. Poi havendami detto il medesmo M. Oratia haverlo inviata a detto loca, che si fusse smarrito, io mi posi di nuovo a capiarlo darlo fuora, toltone però alcuni Madrigali che erano in quello, oggiantone de gl'altri che dopò era venuto componendo. E perche dubito, che quoich' una non l'hobbi occupato overo attribuito a se stesso, ho valuta di ma overtirli, accioche se ciò accadesse, o fusse accaduto possiate con vincerla di manifesto furto.
